MELT has combined two beautiful medicinal plants Dark Chocolate and CBD to create a superfood which tastes of “earthly paradise”   Melt Chocolates have created a delicious combination of two beautiful medicinal plants. A dark chocolate bar infused with Cannabidiol oil (“CBD”). Melt aims to capture the health benefits of these two iconic healing plants – both of which have been used by herbalists for millennia. Why Chocolate and CBD?  Infusing Chocolate with CBD not only tastes delicious, but it allows the CBD to be consumed in an easily digestible form.   While CBD, as a food additive in the UK, is still in its infancy.  CBD has actually been used as a safe natural remedy since time immemorial due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. By adding CBD to chocolate we combine the pleasurable sensation of serotonin and theobromine with the stress relief of CBD. Both contain cannabinoids which complements our natural bodies production to create a “taste of earthly paradise”.  CBD- An Extract from a Beautiful Medicinal Plant CBD forms an important part in our natural herbal arsenal to fight pain and relieve stress.  Medicinal herbs have been used for millennia by mankind to treat all kinds of conditions. Many modern medicines are derivatives of this herbal tradition – for instance: aspirin is derived from the humble willow. CBD oil is extracted from one such important plant. A plant that has been stripped of its more powerful psychoactive elements to leave a healthy herbal remedy. CBD is extracted from the beautiful medicinal plant – the green goddess of the plant world called: Cannabis Sativa L.  You can think of this plant simply in three different components: the (i) fibrous hemp, (ii) CBD, the non-psychoactive cannabinoid, and (iii) THC, the primary psychoactive cannabinoid.   WHAT IS CBD? There are negligible amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (“THC”) within the chocolate as the hemp we use is derived from EU approved strains containing less than 0.2% THC. HOW IT WORKS Your own body naturally creates cannabinoids.  CBD works together with these and your bodies natural Endocannabinoid System (“ECS”). Vegan Chocolate Subscription – Celebrating the Royal Baby – Our new Neighbour

To celebrate the birth of the royal baby, Melt is launching its new Vegan Chocolate subscription box. “Unbelievable vegan chocolates” delivered in beautiful designer packaging from London’s Most Luxurious Chocolate Company. All our fresh chocolates are handmade in the Heart of Notting Hill – neighbours to the new Royal baby.     Melt’s vegan chocolates taste “unbelievable”. Our aim is to make them both good for you and the planet. Your luxury chocolate box comes with plastic-free packaging in a beautiful designer box. Chocolate is naturally vegan, as it’s the fruit of the evergreen cocoa tree. Small orchid-like flowers grow on its trunk which is then pollinated by tiny midges. The resultant fruit contains seeds, misleadingly referred to as beans, called cacao. We are dedicated to gifting a pristine planet to our children. Melt is fanatically plastic-free and minimizes food miles by co-locating our kitchens in our shops.   Saving the planet one plant at a time.  To decarbonize the world and halt climate change – veganism will have an important part to play.       Chocolate is a fermented food and is beneficial for gut bacteria. Chocolate naturally sits alongside kefir, yogurt, cheese, wine and beer as being healthy for the gut.  Researchers from the University of Reading measured higher levels of the good bacteria Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species after consuming cocoa.  Our Chocolate and our fresh bonbons are entirely natural products without additives and highly processed products.     Plastic-Free Packaging   Melt’s beautiful designer packaging is plastic-free and has been since our foundation over 10 years ago. All our fresh boxes, chocolate bars and caramels are entirely plastic-free. So approximately 90% percent of our packaging is plastic-free.  However, the journey to being completely plastic free is not an easy one. Customers still like to see the food products they are buying – so we are finding it difficult to eliminate plastic completely from our range. Join us on our journey as we explore ways to eliminate plastic completely from our entire range. Our Customers thoughts and advice are welcome on how to eliminate all plastic from our packaging.   Melt has always allowed the chocolate to do the talking – reducing excessive packaging and designing our products to be plastic-free.  But two areas that we have not eliminated plastic entirely is for small products that customers still like to see before they buy and packaging for internet orders. Courier companies handling of our handcrafted chocolates often means that we are still sadly reliant on bubble wrap to reduce the risk of damage. We have used straw and paper periodically – but the internet delivery mechanism and our handcrafted products don’t seem to be completely compatible – if we want to reach 100% plastic free and not have our goods damaged in transit. Click and collect is one alternative option.     LOW SUGAR The higher the chocolate content the lower the sugar content. Hence our 100% is entirely sugar free or our Superfood bar using 72% cocoa. We are exploring ways of creating sugar free chocolate or sweetning with low GI alternatives. This is the belief that “one must not kill any being” and “non-violence is one’s highest duty”.  Veganism is therefore the renouncement of the killing of any living being, for all creatures, great or small – of whatever size – from ants or bees to large mammals.  It is the belief that all life forms a network and all living creatures must, therefore, help each other. A Jainist will even walk with great care – so as to not crush an insect on the path. Furthermore they believe it is wrong to exploit any animal – hence the rejection of milk, eggs and even honey. Veganism is the only truly sustainable option when looking after our planet. A plant-based diet requires only one-third of the land needed to support meat and dairy diets.  Avoiding animal products is one of the simplest ways an individual can reduce the resource strain on our planet,  and take a stand against inefficient food systems.
